Geilenkirchen-Süggerath - On May 12 (Monday), a woman from Süggerath received a call from an unknown person claiming to be an employee of her local bank. The caller, who appeared credible to the woman, reported an attempted fraudulent account debit and persuaded the senior citizen to provide her access data and hand over her bank card to another alleged bank employee, who appeared at her home address shortly after 1.30 p.m.
A subsequent call to the bank finally revealed that the account had been debited with a low four-digit amount in the meantime. The person collecting the money was in his late 20s, had dark hair, was short and slender and appeared to be of German origin. He was wearing jeans trousers and a shirt.
The police are now looking for witnesses who made suspicious observations in the Inselweg area during the period in question.
